Operating Principles

The SCS UU linear slider operates on the well-established principle of rolling friction to enable smooth, highly efficient linear movement.

Mechanism of Rolling Contact:

The core of the system is the internal LM-UU linear bearing, which contains multiple circuits of precision steel balls held within a retainer. As the slider moves along a hardened and ground linear shaft:

• Rolling Interface: The steel balls make point contact with the shaft's hardened surface and roll freely.
• Low Friction: This rolling action provides an exceptionally low-friction interface, eliminating stick-slip issues common with plain bushings and allowing for smooth, efficient motion.

Function of the Housing:

The solid aluminum housing serves a dual purpose: it acts as a rigid enclosure for the linear bearing, ensuring its proper alignment and protection, and it provides a convenient, ready-to-mount platform for integrating the linear motion system into a larger mechanical assembly.
