The SBR (Supported Shaft Rail) linear block system is an economical and highly effective solution for achieving smooth linear motion. It utilizes ball bearings that roll within a cylindrical shaft, with the entire assembly guided and supported by a durable aluminum support rail. This makes SBR rails a popular choice for applications requiring precision and affordability, such as CNC machines and 3D printers.
Key Components and Working Principle
Guidance and Track: The SBR support rail provides the system's structural integrity and guidance. It features a pre-drilled, hollowed-out optical axis (shaft) that serves as the precise track for the moving block. The continuous aluminum support distributes the load and prevents shaft deflection.
Rolling Motion: The SBR slide block houses internal steel ball bearings. These bearings are in continuous point contact with the inner surface of the shaft, allowing the block to travel along the rail.
Low Friction: As the SBR block is moved, the steel balls roll rather than slide. This conversion to rolling friction results in extremely low frictional resistance, which is the core reason for the system's smooth, low-friction, and precise linear motion.
Load Support: The aluminum support rail is crucial for load support. It efficiently distributes the load from the block over a wide area, significantly enhancing the system's stability and overall load-bearing capacity.
Unlimited Stroke: The structural design of SBR rails allows for unlimited stroke length. Supported shafts can be joined end-to-end to create a linear track of virtually any required length without compromising performance.
