When a linear axis requires a physical limit stop capable of absorbing high kinetic energy, but standard black-oxide steel is susceptible to corrosion, nickel-plated carbon steel provides the necessary structural stability and environmental protection.

The defining characteristic of these collars is their electroless nickel plating. This chemical deposition process ensures a highly uniform coating thickness across the entire collar, including the threads and the precision-ground bore.
