1. Model Designation: The PHS Anatomy
The "PHS" designation defines the structural configuration of the bearing:
P: Rod End / Pillowball category.
H: Hole (Female Thread). This is the defining characteristic. Unlike the POS series (which features a male threaded shank), the PHS series features a hollow shank with internal threads, designed to accept a threaded rod or linkage.
S: Standard Spherical Insert.

 

2. Operating Principle: Spherical Sliding Contact
The fundamental mechanism of the PHS series is Spherical Plain Sliding. Unlike rolling-element bearings, it relies on a sliding interface to manage motion.
The Interface: A precision-hardened steel inner ring (the ball) rotates within a softer outer race, typically constructed from a bronze or copper alloy to minimize friction and wear.
Kinematics (Motion Control):

  • Rotation: The inner ball rotates freely around the axis of the mounting bolt.
  • Oscillation (Articulation): Critically, the inner ball can tilt relative to the housing.

Engineering Advantage: This articulating design allows the connected linkage to move with three degrees of freedom. Even if the cylinder rod exerts force at a slight angle or the chassis undergoes torsion, the PHS bearing self-aligns. This ensures linear force transmission and prevents damaging bending moments on the rod.
