The SCS Series (often referred to as "SCS Sliders" or "Box Bearings") represents one of the most common and cost-effective solutions for guiding linear motion along round shafts.
Technically, an SCS unit consists of a standard linear ball bushing (LM...UU) enclosed within a precision-machined aluminum pillow block housing. This housing provides the necessary mounting points and structural rigidity, transforming the raw bearing into a "plug-and-play" automation solution.
1. Primary Functions
Load Interface: The unit acts as the connection point between the moving carriage (load) and the stationary guide shaft. Its flat top surface features four tapped holes, allowing for the direct attachment of plates, sensors, or workpieces.
Friction Reduction: Utilizing internal recirculating ball bearings, the SCS unit converts sliding friction into rolling friction. This drastically reduces the force required to move the load compared to traditional plastic or bronze bushings.
Simplified Alignment: The aluminum housing is machined to hold the bearing perfectly parallel to the mounting surface, eliminating the need for complex bore machining in custom plates and simplifying the assembly process.
2. Key Advantages
Cost-Effectiveness: The SCS series offers an exceptional performance-to-price ratio. It is a more economical alternative to profile rail guides (such as HG or EG series) for applications that do not require ultra-high precision or heavy load capacities.
Easy Installation & Maintenance: Unlike raw linear bearings that require press-fitting and snap rings, the SCS unit bolts directly onto flat surfaces. Replacement is effortless-simply unbolt the worn unit and swap it in minutes.
Low Inertia: Constructed from anodized aluminum alloy, the housing is lightweight and corrosion-resistant. This low mass allows for faster acceleration and deceleration using smaller motors.
3. Series Variations
Standard (SCS-UU): The standard single-length block.
Long Type (SCS-LUU): A double-length block containing two bearings for increased moment load stability (resistance to twisting).
Short Type (SCS-S): A compact version designed for space-constrained applications.
